________________________________________________________________________________

I want to thank the following very special people for making it possible for me to tell my story.  My breeder for bringing me into the world and her assistant for loving me and caring for me. My Daddy, for the photos of me and my Mommy, Arlene Klein, for being my writer, my best friend and the best Mommy in the world.

My story is dedicated to all the Yorkshire Terriers in the world. May all your dreams come true.

It seems that everyone is a writer these days, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon and be a writer, too. After all, I’m a smart little fella. I’ve heard it said that where you go in life is up to you. Well, I do have style and grace and a very sunny disposition. I love just about everyone and everything. I’m sure that’s why I’m where I am today.

So, curl up in your favorite chair,
And my life’s story with you I’ll share.
People sometimes wonder if dreams can come true.
I will tell you, they really do.
I'm a Champion

IN THE BEGINNING

I came into the world November 5, 1998. My mother’s name was CeCe and my father’s name was Dante. My proud breeder and her assistant were so happy with my arrival. I was a beautiful, healthy puppy with a prospective show career. They named me Wildweir Cherokee Dancer and called me SCOUT.

I lived happily with a lot of other dogs, frolicking the hours away. My days were filled with playing and training and grooming. Before I forget to tell you, mealtime was a very special time of the day. Of course, like everyone in life, I would soon have a career. Like my parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents, I was being trained to be a Show Dog, with high hopes of becoming an American Champion. I hoped that one day, I would be a daddy to my own little puppies. Not only have I become a daddy, but also a grandpa.

Time passed quickly and before long I was a PhD (pretty handsome dude). With my beauty and cheerful disposition, I soon earned my American Championship title. Everyone was so proud of me and my accomplishments. I had become a graduate of Yorkie U. I was CHAMPION Wildweir Cherokee Dancer.

Life went along as usual. I ran and played in the kennels and went to dog shows on the weekends. I was having a grand time and I was very happy. Sometimes, I was a thinker and a dreamer. When I was thinking, everyone knew it. I would have a serious look on my face and my ears would lay straight back on my head. When I would dream, I pictured myself as a pampered pooch, living with a loving family who would treat me like a prince.

NOT JUST ANOTHER DAY

Time goes so fast when you’re having fun. October 21, 2003 rolled around before I realized it. I would soon celebrate my fifth birthday. I awoke that morning, had a good breakfast, that my breeder fixed for me and the other dogs and I played as usual. While I was being trimmed and bathed, my breeder and her assistant were talking. I cocked my head from side to side and tried to understand what they were saying. I just knew that something good was about to happen.

A little while later, the door bell rang and a little lady ( she was only 4 feet 8 inches) and her handsome husband were at the door. My breeder had known them for a long time. They had many Yorkies for more than forty years and now had none. Their last little Yorkie, Kody, went to Doggie Heaven just months before. They missed him terribly and were very lonesome without fur at their feet. My breeder, who loved me so much, had told them about me and invited them to come and meet me. She knew that I could make them so happy and knew that they would give me the life that I dreamed about.

The little lady and her husband were outside on the porch talking to my breeder. Then my breeder came to get me and took me outside. I ran to the lady, my head held high and my tail wagging. She picked me up and hugged me. I kissed and kissed until I kissed all the lipstick off her lips. She laughed and hugged me tight. It was love at first sight. Everyone sat and talked and then we said our goodbyes.

The next thing I knew I was in the front seat of a shiny automobile, perched upon a blue cushy pillow on my new Mommy’s lap. I didn’t know where my journey would take me, but I knew that it was the start of something new.

A NEW WORLD

We soon arrived at what would be my new home forever. I ran around, sniffing and searching. I wanted to learn all that I could about my new world. After Mommy gave me a hearty dinner of food especially designed for Yorkies, I followed her everywhere. I was getting to know my way around quickly. At night, I followed Mommy and Daddy to the bedroom that they would share with me. There was a red pen with a puffed pillow waiting for me. My dream, to sleep in a real bedroom, had come true. I would live as a pampered pooch in the lap of luxury.

The next day and all the days after, I awoke and blinked my eyes a few extra times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. This was all too good to be true. Everyday is a new adventure with new places and new faces. I delight in the simple joy of walks. I love strolling by the bay with gentle breezes blowing in my face. Then there are car rides and trips to shopping plazas and beaches. I go to restaurants, where we dine outdoors. I sit on a chair and I’m a perfect gentleman. I have even gone to an art museum, where I sat for a photo shoot. People fuss over me everywhere I go. I’m always "dressed" with a bow in my hair. Yes, I’m a pretty happy dog and a pretty handsome dude.

SPECIAL MOMENTS

I lived with my Mommy and Daddy for just two weeks when I celebrated my fifth birthday. Such a celebration, it took my breath away. We had a birthday cake with candles. They sang a Happy Birthday song that was new to my little ears. Daddy took pictures of the momentous occasion. Daddy is very artistic and he made a big birthday card for me. I got lots of toys and treats from family and friends. Some gifts arrived by mail. My very favorite toy came from Sesame, the ShihTzu granddog. It’s a soft, sqeaky bone that I call my SESI bone and I play with it all the time. Sesame and I have become good pals and we love each other a lot. I’m a pretty handsome dude and she’s my pretty lady.

Another special time was when Mommy, who had not been in the show ring with a dog for more than ten years, entered me for a weekend of dog shows. I, too, was semi-retired and had not been to a show for a couple of years. Well, let me tell you, we did a great job. We entered the ring: Mommy, a little nervous and me, my confident self. I had been trained very well. Mommy and I made a great team and I knew it. My beautiful coat sweeping the floor and my elegance and grace soon relaxed Mommy. The judge awarded me Best of Breed. Everyone applauded and Mommy gave me lots of kisses. Such excitement. I’m the man!

Mommy and I really enjoy dog shows, so we enter now and then. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don’t. But, win or lose, we always have fun and I’m always Mommy’s Best In Show. She is so proud of me and always praises me.

I’m calm and cool and very well mannered. Every once in a while, I’m amazed at my own intelligence. Mommy loves to train dogs to be canine good citizens. She had obedience trained all of her dogs. One day I sat quietly and watched as she trained Sesame. Then, she asked if I would like to try. Of course, I had never done this before, but it looked like fun to me. Well, the PhD from Yorkie U once again proved himself. Mommy said, "Scout, stay, wait". She put out her hand as a signal for me to stay. She walked to the other side of the room and turned and looked me in the eye. Although it was only a moment or two, it seemed like forever that I was sitting and watching her. Then, in a cheerful tone of voice she said, "Scout, come". I was so excited that I ran to her. She gave me a treat and then hugged and kissed me. It was such fun that we did it again and again. Now, I’m becoming an experienced obedience trained dog.

Everyday I learn something new. I’ve learned lots of new games. I’m at expert at Fetch and I’m pretty good at Hide and Seek. Mommy also taught me how to dance. If she tells me to dance, I stand on my hind legs and she holds my front paws in her hands and we twirl to the music. I wag my tail and wiggle my little body. I love it!!!!

One of my most favorite places in the whole wide world is Sesame’s house. I visit her a lot.  They have so many toys and stuffed animals that it makes me dizzy. I quietly sneak into the bedrooms and play with toys that are all sizes and shapes and colors and very soft and fluffy. There is so much to choose from, that it’s a big decision. However, I know exactly what I like.

Sometimes, I go to "Doggy Camp" for sleep overs. If Mommy and Daddy go someplace where they can’t take me, I spend time at Sesame's house with her Mommy and Daddy and sisters.  I have a wonderful time and I love playing with Sesame.  I’m just a happy little dog and I have fun wherever I am. I’m confident and I know that my Mommy and Daddy will be back soon to take me home.

NEW FOUND FRIENDS

When I discovered geckos, my imagination came to life. I can amuse myself for hours by watching these funny little critters. I love to see these little lizards run and climb. They come to visit everyday and go nose to nose with me, with only the lanai screen separating us. I get so excited that my body shakes from side to side. I sit quietly and never bark, for fear of frightening them.

I have always loved cats and birds and squirrels and just about everything that has fur. I think, however, that the geckos are my favorite little friends. I think that they really like me, too. Of course, I know that dogs and geckos are very different from each other. But, we can still be friends.

MY PHOTO DIARY

I heard that a picture means more than a thousand words.  So, I present this for your viewing pleasure.

Come along and travel my journey with me.
What I do and where I go, you’re about to see.
Every day is an adventure, every moment is filled with fun,
I go so many places and sometimes just bask in the sun.

And then I’m so excited when to special events I go,
Where lots of dogs and people are walking to and fro.
Everybody talks to me and thinks I’m really cute.
They get ready with their camera, as I pose for a photo shoot.

STARRY NIGHT

When it’s night time and I go to sleep,
I’m so tired, I don’t make a peep.
I love sleeping in a great big bed
And on the pillow I lay my head.
My mind is filled with memories of the day
And exciting thoughts of how tomorrow I’ll play.

I’m happy and content because I know
That my Mommy and Daddy love me so.
They always tell me I’m their Best In Show.
I love them so much and I bring them joy.
I’m their PhD, their golden boy.

The places I go and the things I do
Are magical moments in my life.
Yes, my dreams really DID come true.

Now I've told my story to you.
I hope that ALL dogs' dreams come true.
